New toy: the H4 Handy Recorder
I’ve just gotten a new recording gadget, the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder from Samson. Although the menu layouts can be frustrating, this thing has remarkably good sound from the built-in microphones and even comes with lots of on-board effects. I tried to record some guitar and bass to test its 4-track recorder functions but I was having trouble getting any signal from the inputs. I guess I’ll probably have to read the dern manual.
New Caustic Reverie WIP
Here’s the latest mix of a Caustic Reverie song I’m working on with the working title of Vespers. It’s a lot shorter than the other two but much more chaotic.

Mute
I’ve released a new album-length Caustic Reverie track called Mute. This song was created with a combination of musique concrète, image-based synthesis, and a variety of spacial and temporal processing. The artwork was manipulated and mangled from a photo taken by Scott Hamilton.

For this year’s Halloween costume, Hans decided to go with a mash-up combining Richard Simmons’ signature workout apparel with the maquillage of the KISS member with the same surname.
New music project: Caustic Reverie
I’ve been messing around with some dark ambient and drone stuff and have started a new project called Caustic Reverie. I’ve released an album-length piece called Absent that is available to listen via streaming on last.fm. It takes a while to build, so I recommend putting it on in the background when you go read some Thomas Ligotti.
