Sumptus Ignis

Sumptus Ignis started in 2016 as a progressive doom metal side project from Identity Collapse members Joshua Wojtaszek (Reality Crutch) Bryn Schurman (Caustic Reverie, ex-Washed In Blood, solo), joined on vocals by soprano Jessy Sparks. They crystallized around the idea of fusing various flavors of extreme metal with industrial electronica, ambient synths, and progressive rock bombast. Multi-instrumentalists both, Josh and Bryn wanted to compose songs for this new project with a more cinematic approach, and without getting boxed into the roles or genre expectations of their previous band.

In March of 2017, Sumptus Ignis released their debut EP titled Seasons of Attrition. The four tracks move through many distinct moods and styles over the course of 29 minutes, providing a journey full of peaks and valleys, tension and release. November 2018 saw the release of their debut album Ambition a six track, 44 minute album that further combines and redefines the group’s diverse palette of sounds. In June of 2019, they released their second album Curtain Calls, featuring new flavors of power-metal and psychedelia, with two tracks mixed by Silura‘s Richard Perdomo, who would go on to join the band and bring along Joshua Thomas Williams for the ride in 2021. John Scott also joined the fold, adding clean vocals and slide guitar to the mix.

The Kindred Dark was released in 2022, featuring a multi-song suite and a re-recorded version of their Lovecraft-Mythos devotional As Is.

The group is currently writing and recording their next batch of songs. Look for a new single March 15th.
