Due to some life issues around the time of the release, I had never gotten around to doing a proper post for my band’s previous album The Kindred Dark. Here’s a write-up with links to our videos, streaming and download sources, and the first review we’ve gotten so far.
The next single release for my band Sumptus Ignis is Macrocosmic View. The song was inspired by the writing of Laird Barron, more specifically the novel Worse Angels. If you squint, you can make out the sigil of Old Leech in the cover art.
I took part in the second big Shedrat Industries multi-band cover. We recorded a new version of the Children of Bodom classic Downfall, in memory of the passing of Alexi Laiho.
I tackled drums, vocals, and keyboards. Bass and mixing comes courtesy of Domo from Silura. Guitarists include Thomas from Seven Cities Dead, Wojo from Reality Crutch/Sumptus Ignis, and Austin nailed the solo. Full credits in the video link.
Children of Bodom’s first two albums came onto my radar near the end of high school and were really important in pushing the boundaries of heavy music in my formative period. RIP, Alexi.
New designs and products are available on my band’s Threadless merch shop. We now offer facemasks and leggings with artwork from Curtain Calls and Onward.
Josh recorded a classy playthrough video of his guitar parts (and a little bass) for Heartstrings Black. This is the version from Ambition Instrumentals.
“Sumptus Ignis are a progressive metal duo out of Key Largo, Florida who are heavily influenced by the generally melodic and dour output from greater western Europe in the last three decades. I appreciate the DIY affect of ‘Ambition’ as they begin to stretch themselves unto the quality of their influences. “
Kevin from Metal-Temple.com gave a nice review of Ambition.
” The workmanship of the duo is relentless, the different themes and styles of delivery is brave, meshing them together to make an album work as a whole is a talent, fortunately they are gifted enough to make it work. “
